My search for cookbooks seems endless. I could spend hours in a bookstore looking through them. How would I get my fix if brick and mortar stores became extinct? I don’t get the same experience shopping for cookbooks online because I need to make sure that the book tells a story, which is difficult to do in cyberspace.

A new book in my collection, Julie Loria’s “Diamond Dishes: From the Kitchens of Baseball’s Biggest Stars,” Lyons Press $24.95, does just that, giving baseball fans and food lovers a behind-the-scenes look at their favorite Major League Baseball players with stories told through memorable meals, family recipes, color photos of the players in the kitchen and anecdotes.
